I was sent a Lensbaby ‘Sol 45’ lens to beta test on my Arri Alexa Mini, so I took it out for a day to try it out. The main feature of this novelty lens is it has a region of selective focus that falls off into a streaky blur around it. The lens itself pivots on the mount so you can move this region around by tilting it. The result provides an ethereal dreamlike quality that could potentially be used for music videos, flashback scenes, memories or as a cinematographic tool to represent intoxication or POV shots.
